Rasa
Rasa, a magnificent Percheron/Friesian cross who stands at about 16.2 hands and weighs about 1,600 pounds, began her life working alongside the Amish in Pennsylvania. Originally named Myrtle, her life took an unexpected turn when her owner fell ill, leaving her with no one to care for her. At a mere 12 years old, Rasa was suddenly destined for the kill pen.
Luckily, her story reached Blackwater Horse Rescue of Webster, MA, who stepped in and rescued her from a tragic end.

When Officer Joe Caproni of the Dover Police Department’s Mounted Patrol Unit sought a replacement for his retired partner, Monty, the police department and Blackwater Horse Rescue of Webster brokered the perfect match. Thanks to the generosity of Jeff King of Chinburg Builders in Dover, NH, who purchased and donated Rasa to the department, Rasa joined the Dover Police as a member of their Mounted Patrol Unit in 2016!
Before taking on this crucial role, Rasa underwent a rigorous vetting and training process. The job demands a unique set of skills: calmness under pressure, composure in traffic, gentle demeanor around children, and exceptional riding skills. Thankfully, this extraordinary horse proved to possess all these qualities in abundance! These qualities made her an invaluable asset to the Dover Police Department.

Now 23 years old, Rasa enjoys a well-deserved retirement at Elysium Acres! After retiring from the Dover Police Force, Rasa found a new home at the Mill Circle Equestrian Center. While at Mill Circle, she supported veterans, children, and more. She later joined the Elysium Acres family when it opened in 2024. Rasa’s friendly and inquisitive nature shines through in every interaction. Always eager to please, she’s a natural in front of the camera, instinctively knowing how to pose in the best light. A true diva!
